Automatic defibrillator campaign

SOI is planning to upgrade our current AED, which is more than 20 years old. The cost of a new one is approximately $1,800. Please partner with us by donating towards this goal by February 10th. While we hope to never use it, having an AED on hand could be what saves the life of someone you know and care about.

What is AED?  An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It's a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart's rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm.

Why learn to use an AED? Sudden cardiac arrest is among the leading causes of death in the United States. In fact, more than 350,000 people will suffer a cardiac arrest this year. Currently, the only way to restore a regular heart rhythm during cardiac arrest is to use an AED.

Where have I heard about AED's in the news? The Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, is home and recovering from sudden cardiac arrest thanks to an AED.

Thank you to Dr. Ron Zanger for maintaining our current AED for the past 20 years!

The cost for this class will be approximately $40 per person.  Any funds raised through this campaign, above & beyond the cost of the AED, will be used to offset the price of the course for all participants.

Additional details will be forthcoming.
