Rabbi michael davies

Rabbi Michael Davies began as the spiritual leader of Congregation Sons of Israel in August 2021. He is excited for the myriad opportunities to impact and inspire the congregation and looks forward to connecting, learning, and growing with the members of the Cherry Hill Jewish community.

Before coming to Cherry Hill, Rabbi Davies was the first rabbi of Congregation Dor Tikvah in Charleston, South Carolina, a position he held from 2013 to 2021. Under his tenure, Dor Tikvah became a leading institution in the Charleston Jewish community for youth and family programming and a spiritual address known for its warmth and welcoming atmosphere. In recognition of his leadership, Rabbi Davies had the honor of being included in the Charleston Regional Business Journal’s Forty under 40, Class of 2017. Prior to this position, he was Assistant and then Associate Rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation in Oakland, California (2008-2013), an innovative West Coast shul of close to 200 families.

Rabbi Davies also taught Middle School Judaic Studies at Charleston’s Addlestone Hebrew Academy including classes in Chumash, Jewish Philosophy, and Constructive Conflict. He was a member of the local Vaad HaKashrus and a Dayan/Judge on the Atlanta Regional Beis Din for Geirus/Conversion. He is also a member of the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA).

Rabbi Davies, a New York/New Jersey native, received his Bachelor's Degree in accounting from Yeshiva University and his Semichah from RIETS. He was a member of the inaugural cohort of Ohr Chadash, a partnership between Ner L’Elef and Yeshiva University and a member of the second cohort of YU’s Certificate Program in Experiential Jewish Education.

Rabbi Davies is married to Ora Davies (née Hus), a licensed social worker currently serving as a Judaic Studies Teacher at Kohelet Middle School in Philadelphia. The Davies are the proud parents of Yehoshua, Chana, Moshe, Shmuel, and Rena.

Rabbi Davies is a passionate leader who believes in building community through thoughtful study and meaningful connection. He looks forward to getting to know the members of Congregation Sons of Israel and the broader Cherry Hill Jewish community.
